Why the blank page feels so intimidating
You can gently talk about perfectionism, pressure, and the idea that a sketchbook does not need to be impressive to be meaningful.
How to choose one simple thing worth drawing
You can guide students to look around their room and choose something small: a mug, book, lamp, plant, shoes, bag, window corner, or desk item. Or a set reference.
Build your first simple sketchbook page
Students draw along with you using loose warm-ups, simple shapes, a small composition, and optional notes around the drawing.

I love creating pieces that feel warm, observational, a little nostalgic, and full of personality. Through my sketchbooks, prints, originals, and commissions, Iâm always drawn to the small things that make a place or moment feel special.
In The Everyday Pages, Iâll be sharing my sketchbook process with you and showing you how to turn the world around you into drawings, from everyday objects and cosy corners to cafĂŠs, streets, travel memories, and quiet little scenes.
My approach is relaxed, beginner-friendly, and full of encouragement. No pressure to make everything perfect, just a sketchbook, a few simple materials, and a little time away from the scroll to notice, draw, and create something that feels like you.
